Virginians Get Your Application in for Safe Routes to School (Infrastructure) Funding!

The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) has announced a new round of Transportation Alternatives (TA) Set-Aside funding. This application cycle will include awards for both FY19 and FY20 allocations. The deadline for applications is November 1, 2017. Keep in in mind that if you don’t apply this year, you won’t have another chance until November 2019. Do not miss this opportunity to submit your application!

There are four defined categories for the TA Set-Aside including:  1) Transportation Alternatives (which includes new sidewalk construction, installing high-visibility crosswalks, and building connections to off-street trails, among others), 2) Safe Routes to School, 3) Recreational Trails and 4) Boulevards from Divided Highways. We should point out that in Virginia, the TA Set-Aside grants for Safe Routes to School only fund infrastructure projects. For more information on Safe Routes to School Non-Infrastructure project grants, please visit VDOT’s Safe Routes to School program page.

If you are interested in submitting a TA Set-Aside grant application, we encourage you to attend one of the three remaining TA Set-Aside workshops across Virginia that are taking place in the coming weeks for a full overview of the program and the application process. The workshops are free, but registration is required.
