Model Open Use Policy for School Districts

This model policy focuses on one particular shared use mechanism, the “Open Use Policy.”

Open use refers to the practice of allowing free community access to school district property for individual play and physical activity without a partnership or agreement with another public entity or a third party. Open use is not a new idea. On the contrary, school districts across the country have been allowing open use informally for decades, and some school districts have formalized open use with policies and agreements.
