Please join the Safe Routes Partnership in asking our next President to make a significant investment in getting Americans more physically active. Half of adults and 75 percent of children in this country do not meet the minimum levels of physical activity recommended for good health. Yet, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) currently has very little funding to address our nation’s physical inactivity crisis.

In partnership with several national organizations, we are calling on the next Administration to invest $120 million per year into moving people from inactivity to activity. This investment would allow the CDC to do better data collection, invest in partners who are working to get more people active, and support local programs and policy change initiatives to create a healthy environment (including built environment and active transportation!) so more can walk, bike, and be physically active.

Part of the success of the Safe Routes to School movement locally is partnerships between health and transportation organizations. Imagine what more we could do with a significant investment from the CDC!

We hope you will join with us now in expressing your support for this request. Pleasereview the letter to both Presidential candidates’ transition teams, and sign your organization on by September 30
