Join the State Funding Strategies workgroup to hear about the state active transportation funding trends and how you, as an advocate, can best set yourself up for productive conversations with legislators on active transportation. Ava Gallo, Climate and Energy Manager at the National Caucus of Environmental Legislators, will join us to cover what got through state legislatures in 2023 and what is getting introduced in 2024 to support multimodal trails, biking, walking, and safe routes to school. Arizona’s Innovative State Funding To Help Smaller Communities Access Federal Transportation Dollars

While there is significant federal funding for active transportation, it is hard to muster the resources required to develop and deliver successful projects. The Arizona Department of Transportation has set up a fund to reimburse smaller counties, cities, and towns for costs associated with developing designs and engineering plans, developing and submitting grants, and providing the local, non-federal match for federal grants. Lisa Danka from ADOT will join us to share an overview and lessons learned from the Arizona State Match Advantage for Rural Transportation (SMART) Program.
