Oregon 2019 Legislative Update
With the First Chamber deadline quickly approaching, we're monitoring key transportation and climate bills advancing in the Oregon Legislature. Here are just a few bills we're watching:
Climate & Air Quality
Public Comment Open for Transit Funding + LTD’s “Transit Tomorrow”
The Statewide Transportation Improvement Fund (STIF) is a new dedicated source of funding for expanding public transportation service in Oregon. (Read our earlier coverage of STIF & activity in the Salem-area). Eighteen of the forty-two eligible transit providers in Oregon have submitted applications for the first STIF review cycle, which started in November 2018.
Getting There Together Welcomes the New Metro Council
The Getting There Together Coalition recently submitted a letter to the incoming Metro Council of the greater Portland region, urging that they prioritize equitable transportation in the region when they look at transportation financing measures.
New Mobility Options for Salem: Bike Share ready to launch, E-scooters consider deployment
As cities across the country take steps to address equity, traffic congestion, and reduce climate emissions, many are looking to bike and scooter share programs for possible solutions. New mobility programs seem to make headlines each week, with announcements of new transportation technologies hitting our streets. Last year, Portland held a fourth-month pilot program to test out e-scooter share programs in the City. And in recent weeks, the City of Salem has been gearing up for a new bike share and contemplating its own e-scooter deployment.

New Oregon Public Transportation Plan highlights Equity, Health & Environment
Adopted last month, the new OPTP captures several changes requested by the National Partnership, including strengthened discussion on housing affordability, transit access to parks and nature, and inclusion of disadvantaged communities in leadership roles.
Comment Now on Metro's Regional Transportation Plan
The greater Portland area’s regional planning body, Metro, is in the process of updating the region’s Regional Transportation Plan (RTP), which is a blueprint to guide investments for all forms of travel – motor vehicle, transit, bicycle and walking – and the movement of goods and freight throughout the Portland metropolitan region. The Public Comment period is open now through August 13.
Advocacy Sees Improvements to Metro’s Regional Transportation Plan Project List
Metro is in the process of updating the region’s Regional Transportation Plan (RTP), which is a blueprint to guide investments for all forms of travel – motor vehicle, transit, bicycle and walking – and the movement of goods and freight throughout the Portland metropolitan region. Until recently, however, the resulting RTP Project List didn't actually reflect or achieve the region's goals.
