Since early 2018, the Safe Routes Partnership has been proud to support our partners in the Salem area in getting started on its first ever Safe Routes to School program. Metro Regional Transportation Measure Referred to November Ballot
As long-time advocates and fighters for safe and accessible transportation options, and founding members of the Getting There Together Coalition, we are thrilled that today Metro Council referred their Get Moving 2020 regional transportation investment measure to the November 2020 ballot, which will invest more than $7 billion over the next 20 years.

Metro Council is getting ready to decide whether to refer their Regional Transportation Measure Get Moving 2020 to the November ballot. There are four opportunities starting June 30 to have your voice heard.
Metro Transportation Measure Update: Regionwide Programs
Finalization of the ballot measure in the greater Portland region, which has been under development for more than a year, was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. A decision by Metro Council whether to refer the package to the November 2020 ballot is now expected this summer. If referred and passed, the measure will invest billions in safety, transit, and transportation access projects in our communities over the next 20 years.
Support A Regional Universal YouthPass
We are now about three months away from Metro’s referral of a regional investment in transportation in 2020 – Metro is widely expected to make that referral this May for the November 2020 ballot.
Salem Passes Sit-Lie Ordinance, Presenting New Challenges for Unsheltered
March 24, 2020 Update:
Salem City Council has adopted a Sit-Lie ordinance that prohibits people from sitting or lying on public sidewalks from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. The ordinance was approved a week after Council’s decision to ban loitering in public spaces during the next 5 weeks to slow the spread of COVID-19. The Sit-Lie ordinance is permanent and has a $250 penalty attached for violators.
Comment Now on Indirect Source Rules
In December, a coalition of 20 leading environmental and social justice organizations submitted a petition to Oregon policymakers to establish regulations for toxic diesel emissions from indirect, or non-road, sources -- such as construction sites, distribution centers, and railyards. Comment on this by February 14.
Exploring Tactical Urbanism in Eugene-Springfield
We’ve been supporting efforts in Eugene-Springfield to explore “tactical urbanism” options for the region. In other words, we’re interested in quick, affordable solutions to make conditions for people walking and bicycling, safer and more convenient.
