Concern Grows Over SR 500 Project in Vancouver

This fall, WSDOT will remove traffic lights on SR 500 at Northeast Falk Road/Northeast 42nd Avenue and Northeast 54th Avenue/Northeast Stapleton Road in Vancouver, and install a barrier in the middle of the highway, to address safety and crash concerns for vehicles. We applaud that these changes are predicted to reduce the number of collisions at or near the intersections by up to 70 percent.

Lane & Mid-Willamette Valley MPOs consider legislative priorities for 2019

The Mid-Willamette Valley Council of Governments (MWVCOG) and Lane Council of Governments (LCOG) are preparing possible policy agendas for the upcoming 2019 Legislative Session. The Policy Committee for the Salem-Keizer Active Transportation Study (SKATS), also the designated Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the area, met today to discuss next steps for the Mid-Willamette Valley region.

Comment Now on Metro's Regional Transportation Plan

The greater Portland area’s regional planning body, Metro, is in the process of updating the region’s Regional Transportation Plan (RTP), which is a blueprint to guide investments for all forms of travel – motor vehicle, transit, bicycle and walking – and the movement of goods and freight throughout the Portland metropolitan region. The Public Comment period is open now through August 13.

Advocacy Sees Improvements to Metro’s Regional Transportation Plan Project List

Metro is in the process of updating the region’s Regional Transportation Plan (RTP), which is a blueprint to guide investments for all forms of travel – motor vehicle, transit, bicycle and walking – and the movement of goods and freight throughout the Portland metropolitan region. Until recently, however, the resulting RTP Project List didn't actually reflect or achieve the region's goals.

Salem City Council Approves Salem’s First Family-Friendly Bikeway

Last night the Salem City Council approved the Winter-Maple Neighborhood Greenway - the first family-friendly bikeway in the City of Salem! The 2.5-mile route passes near and directly by several schools where, currently, students do not have access to safe routes to walk, bike or roll to school. The Winter-Maple Neighborhood Greenway will transform the area and provide these new opportunities to students and people of all ages. Together with the Director of the Oregon School for the Deaf (OSD) and OSD students, we were successful in advocating for the inclusion of both speed humps and a reduced speed limit to 20 mph near the OSD Campus, which was not included in previous drafts of the plan.

Washington Traffic Safety Commission’s Annual Grant Solicitation

Washington state is building traffic safety partnerships throughout the state to align priorities and leverage resources to improve traffic safety. The Target Zero Plan is the result of this work and represents Washington’s strategic roadmap for eliminating traffic fatalities and serious injuries by the year 2030. The Target Zero Plan provides a comprehensive framework with specific priorities, goals, and strategies.
